51st Annual Daytime Emmys coverage: General Hospital was once again named Outstanding Drama Series. It marked the ABC soap's fourth consecutive Drama Series crown.

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES

This year's Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama Series look a little different than they did a few short years ago. Joining the beloved classic soaps is also the Australian soap Neighbours, as well as the digital soap opera The Bay, which received its first nod in this category in 2023.

Days of our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless are all in the running for Drama Series once again.

The four traditional daytime dramas have each been nominated multiple times and combined had taken home 34 Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series until tonight. Coming into Emmy night, The Bold and the Beautiful had won three times, Days of our Lives had won four times, and The Young and the Restless had picked up eleven wins.

General Hospital led the pack with a record-setting 16 Emmy wins -- a total that became 17 when the envelope was opened on stage. This year's win marked the second time in General Hospital's storied history that it had won four consecutive Daytime Drama Series trophies.

Premiering in 1963, General Hospital previously took home the gold in 1981, 1984, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

Executive Producer Frank Valentini accepted the award.

"On behalf of the over 300 people who work at General Hospital, I'd like to thank our partners at ABC, Hulu, and Disney for their tremendous support," he said while thanking various people at the network, "especially Nathan Varni. Nathan, you give your heart and soul to this show. We appreciate it."

Valentini continued by thanking the show's writing team, which also took home Emmys earlier in the night.

"Our stellar cast and crew deliver outstanding work each and every day that energizes us and fills us with pride. Elizabeth Korte and the missing in action Christopher Van Etten, and our talented team of writers possess the talent and imagination of a thousand Shakespeares."

Valentini did not speak to the soap press backstage after the show's win.
