Tony Award winner LaChanze has been cast in a newly created role on One Life to Live.
LaChanze will play Yvette, a woman said to share a "surprising connection" to someone in Llanview -- more on that later in the article. The role is slated to be recurring.
The actress does, however, already share a connection to someone from Llanview. In 2006, LaChanze earned a Tony Award for her work in the Broadway staging of The Color Purple, a production that also starred Renee Goldsberry (ex-Evangeline Williamson) as Nettie.
In addition to appearing in The Color Purple, LaChanze has also appeared in Dreamgirls, Funny Girl, and The Wiz. On television, LaChanze has has guest-starring spots in several primetime drama series.
LaChanze also recently penned a children's book, Little Diva.
In Llanview, Yvette is expected to have ties to another recently announced character: the singly named Baz, played by Precious star Barret Helms.
A first airdate for LaChanze has not yet been announced, though it is expected to come shortly after Helms's debut, which is slated for June 20.
