When it comes to last night's Academy Awards, people may be talking about the fact that Birdman won Best Picture, Lady Gaga sang impressive versions of The Sound of Music songs, Supporting Actress winner Patricia Arquette gave an impassioned feminist acceptance speech, and host Neil Patrick Harris appeared nearly naked on stage. But daytime fans are buzzing because former As the World Turns actress Julianne Moore (ex-Frannie Hughes) won her very first Oscar.
The actress, who's been none-too-shy about her soap opera roots and even mentioned ATWT during her recent acceptance speech at the Screen Actors Guild awards, was presented the award for Best Actress for her powerful portrayal of an Alzheimer's sufferer in Still Alice. She beat out competition from Reese Witherspoon, Rosamund Pike, Marion Cotillard, and Felicity Jones.
Upon accepting her award, Moore joked that she'd read an article stating that winning an Oscar could give you five more years of life. "If that's true, I'd really like to thank the Academy, because my husband is younger than me," she said with a laugh.
Moore has previously been nominated for Boogie Nights, The End of the Affair, Far From Heaven, and The Hours.
