His character's behavior over the past twelve months has been anything but praiseworthy, so perhaps that's why so many people have been won over by David Canary's talent.
The 1999 Dankies / AMC Pages awards saw David Canary once again claiming top honors. Canary has claimed the Outstanding Leading Actor award three consecutive years. In the previous two years, he was runner-up. His dominance in the Dankies has not been matched.
Cameron Mathison, however, has won honors as Outstanding Supporting Actor for two years running. The only other actor to accomplish this feat is Mark Consuelos (Mateo Santos). Consuelos won the category in 1995 and 1996. In only his second year with AMC, Mathison also pulled off a repeat in the Most Attractive Male category. He's the first person to win in this category more than once.
Mathison's on-screen counterpart, Esta TerBlanche, also pulled of the double-take as she was named Outstanding Supporting Actress and Most Attractive Female. It marks her second consecutive win in this category. The accomplishment is match only by Eva LaRue Callahan (Maria Santos), a winner in 1996 and 1997.
Though not a newcomer to daytime television, Finola Hughes was voted 1999's Outstanding Newcomer on All My Children by a very narrow margin. The actress, who portrayed Anna Devane on General Hospital for about a decade, just edged out Marj Dusay (Vanessa Bennett Cortlandt). The only male nominee, Forbes March (Scott Chandler), came in fourth behind Hughes, Dusay, and Abigail Spencer (Becca Tyree).
Alexis Manta scored a threepeat in the Outstanding Younger Performer category. She's the only person to win three consecutive times in any Dankies category. As a bit of a disclaimer, though, in 1997 she was a co-winner with Ben Monk (Kevin Sheffield). Monk now goes by the name Ben Jorgensen. Manta eaked out the win by less than a dozen votes over Jesse McCartney (Adam Chandler, Jr). McCartney may or may not be around for next year's awards. He's currently enrolled as part of a teen singing group in a soon-to-be on Broadway play.
