Former All My Children star Mark LaMura (ex-Mark Dalton) passed away on September 11, following a battle with lung cancer. The actor was 68.
The Emmy-nominated performer was a huge part of Pine Valley from 1977 to 1989, playing the brother of Susan Lucci's Erica Kane. He also made guest appearances on the ABC soap opera throughout the 90s and again in 2004 and 2005.
"How can this be?" Lucci exclaimed on Instagram. "I just received the shocking and deeply saddening news that the wonderful Mark LaMura has passed away! Mark played my brother Mark on AMC. He was such a talented and accomplished actor. A bright and charming presence in all our AMC lives and a really great guy. Mark was loved and he will be missed! RIP, my friend."
Longtime AMC fans may recall that when Mark Dalton first appeared in Pine Valley, Erica took an immediate liking to the handsome stranger. Fortunately, her mother, Mona, intervened just before they made love and revealed the two were actually siblings. Mark went on to have a brief relationship with Brooke English and later married Ellen Shepherd. Some other memorable on-screen moments include Mark's addiction to cocaine (watch his intervention below) and his return appearance in 2004 to help Erica kick an addiction of her own.
LaMura also played Vic Robinson on As the World Turns in 1997, as well as Douglas Kline on One Life to Live in 2007. He also made numerous guest appearances on primetime hits including 30 Rock, Star Trek: The Next Generation, L.A. Law, Damages, and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Additionally, he starred in films like City By the Sea and The Russia House.
