CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless has been the nation's number one daytime drama since the end of 1988, and much of its most-loved moments happened in the 1990s, when it dominated all the other network daytime dramas in ratings. The decade was a time of classic moments written by the show's co-creator, William J. Bell, and featuring beloved stars like Jeanne Cooper (ex-Katherine Chancellor).
Though the 90s are long gone, Y&R fans can travel back in time to the era via some recently posted throwback news clips from CBS News 8 San Diego, which went behind the scenes of Genoa City in both 1990 and 1993.
The first vintage clip features some nostalgic moments like the cast filming scenes on one of the show's original sets, Jeanne Cooper (ex-Katherine Chancellor) and Jess Walton (Jill Abbott) rehearsing in a dressing room, Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott) getting his makeup done, and interviews with co-creators William and Lee Phillip Bell.
The second vintage clip shows News 8 reporter Sandra Maas preparing to play a nurse alongside Y&R stars Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) and Bergman. Meanwhile, Cooper discusses the decline of sex ("They toned it down. It was getting to be too much. There for a while, you'd shake hands, and then you'd wind up on your back,"), Christian LeBlanc films a scene that highlights how his character, Michael Baldwin, used to be a villain known for sexual harassment and murder, and Kimberlin Brown (ex-Sheila Carter) revels in her alter ego's wickedness.
