Elizabeth MacRae, who appeared on various soaps throughout her career, has passed away.

Elizabeth MacRae, who once played Meg Baldwin on General Hospital, died on May 27 in her hometown of Fayetteville, NC. The actress was 88 years old.

MacRae was born on February 22, 1936, in Columbia, SC, but raised in Fayetteville. After graduating from the Holton Arms School in Washington, DC, MacRae moved to New York City to study acting at the famed Herbert Berghof Studio and landed roles in various theater productions before trying her chances in Los Angeles.

Through the years, MacRae appeared in multiple soap operas, with her longest daytime role being Meg Baldwin on General Hospital. Meg was the biological mother of Scott Baldwin. When she married Lee Baldwin, he adopted Scotty as his own. MacRae played Meg from 1969 until the character died in 1973. A few years later, MacRae briefly played Phyllis Anderson on Days of our Lives. Her other soap credits include Guiding Light, Search for Tomorrow, and Another World.

MacRae also graced the small screen in a plethora of primetime appearances. The actress had roles on 77 Sunset Strip, Rawhide, Gunsmoke, I Dream of Jeannie, The Andy Griffith Show, Kojak, Barnaby Jones, and Rhoda. She also had a recurring role from 1966 to 1969 on Gomer Pyle: USMC, playing the titular character's girlfriend.

MacRae's feature film credits include The Conversation, Everything's Ducky, and The Incredible Mr. Limpet. Her last film role was in Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives in 1989. That same year, the actress moved back to New York City, where she worked as a drug and alcohol counselor. She eventually settled in her native Fayetteville with her husband of 55 years, Charles Day Halsey, who passed away earlier this year on March 29.

MacRae is survived by five stepchildren, Terry Halsey, Peter Halsey, Hugh Halsey, Cate Halsey, and Alex Halsey Topper, as well as beloved nieces and nephews.
