Mykel Shannon Jenkins returns to Port Charles in a new role as Curtis Ashford's physical therapist. Is Roy exactly what the doctor ordered, or will there be more to the physical therapist than meets the eye?

General Hospital fans will soon see a familiar face when Mykel Shannon Jenkins returns to Port Charles in a new role as Curtis Ashford's (Donnell Turner) physical therapist Roy. The news was confirmed by Soap Opera Digest.

Some eagle-eyed viewers will recognize Jenkins from his first stint on GH as police officer Byron Murphy from 2004 to 2005. The seemingly good cop was revealed to have a dark side when he shot District Attorney John Durant (Corbin Bernsen) and framed Detective Jesse Beaudry (Matt Marraccini) for the attempted assassination.

Jenkins initially landed the role of Byron Murphy after winning the first season of the SOAPnet's reality-competition program I Wanna Be a Soap Star in 2004. Jenkins was given a thirteen-week contract, but it was later extended through 2005. After leaving GH, Jenkins continued to work steadily in television and movies, and he played Detective Charlie Baker on The Bold and the Beautiful from 2007 to 2012, for which he received an NAACP Image Award nomination for Male Action Performer of the Year in 2008.

It's not clear how long Jenkins will be sticking around. In April, he signed on for an action-thriller motion picture Gunner starring Luke Hemsworth, Morgan Freeman, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's son Joseph Baena. According to Deadline: "Gunner follows Special Ops veteran Lee Gunner (Hemsworth) as he takes his two sons (DeWolfe, Feely) on a fishing trip to reconnect. The trip soon turns awry when the boys stumble upon a massive drug-running operation and are kidnapped by Dobbs (Jenkins), the son of gang kingpin Kendric Ryker (Freeman) who runs his organization from prison."

Curtis has been dealing with a lot in recent months. He learned that he had a long-lost daughter, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali), that his new bride, Dr. Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr), had failed to tell him about until their wedding night. On top of that, he had to risk life and limb to rescue his newfound daughter from an evil Cassadine plot, only to return home and find himself torn between his past love, ex-wife Jordan Ashford (Tanisha Harper), and his new bride. Just as Curtis realized that his future was with his wife, he was struck down by a sniper's bullet meant for someone else, which left him paralyzed from the waist down.

Not surprisingly, Curtis has fallen into depression, and he's been pushing those he loves most away because he fears that he will be a burden to them. Roy will certainly have his work cut out for him trying to get Curtis to a better place.

Will Roy be the guiding force to help Curtis heal in mind, body, and spirit -- or will he end up being more trouble for Curtis? We want to hear from you -- so drop your comments in the Comments section below, tweet about it on Twitter, share it on Facebook, or chat about it on our Message Boards.
