There are some big changes ahead for one General Hospital character. One of those changes involves a recast. The other could very well involve a case of SORAS, otherwise known as Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome.
Scarlett Fernandez, who has played the role of Charlotte Cassadine since September 2016, has exited the ABC soap. The actress confirmed the news -- and that the role of Charlotte has been recast -- in a social media post.
“I’m super grateful for the opportunity that [GH executive producer Frank Valentini] and [casting director Mark Teschner] gave me in 2016,” Fernandez wrote in an Instagram post. “Playing Charlotte Cassadine was my favorite and I’m sad it’s come to an end. I will miss my castmates and the crew.”
Fernandez ended her post by thanking fans for their support and expressed her optimism that fans would "support the new actor playing Charlotte."
In the Instagram post made immediately prior to her farewell post, Fernandez shared a photo from one of her first days on the General Hospital -- a photo that appeared to be taken in exactly the same spot as the one announcing her exit from the ABC soap.
Earlier this year, Fernandez was hospitalized following a serious bicycle accident. The young actress needed surgery on both arms and stitches on her chin.
Prior to joining General Hospital in 2016, Fernandez appeared in primetime on American Housewife, American Horror Story, Shameless, and Jane the Virgin.
